The Institute for Health and Social Science Research (IHSSR) invites you to join us for our first Research Unplugged session for 2012 with Prof Sonj Hall, Director, Collaborative Research Network (Health), CQUniversity. This free, informal, discussion-based presentation will be held at Parker’s Function Room, Criterion Hotel, Quay Street, Rockhampton. See RSVP details below. Finger foods will be provided on the night.
Sonj’s work uses de-identified population-based linkage of administrative health records to improve the quality, safety, and equity of health care. In particular, variations in care and outcomes for people in rural areas, lower socio-economic groups and Indigenous people are explored along with the influence of private health care access and insurance. Beginning with a focus on cancer care and survival in Western Australia she will explain her research and demonstrate the power of this work to change policy and practice and enhance health care at a state and national level. Other health care conditions are also explored to illustrate the breadth of the findings and reinforce the wide spread nature of the problems faced. Lastly, Sonj will explore the role of lobby groups in translating this research into policy and practice.
