Australian Olympic star Libby Trickett graced Rockhampton swimmers with her presence this morning when she did her daily 4.8km swim.
Libby was in town for BEEF 2012 and with the Olympics fast approaching, took the chance to swim in our new FINA compliant pool. She was very happy with the facility and was excited with what the finished product will do for the Region.
Libby swam with around 30 locals at the pool and was more than happy to have her photo taken and chat with the pool users.
It is great to see someone of her calibre use the pool and have only positive things to say about it, we were glad to have her and will welcome her back should she choose to return.Thu, 10 May 2012 00:00:00 +1000http://www.kickstartcq.com.au/news/item/77Town & Country Tennis was a Blast!

Several of this Region’s swimmers have returned home with sore necks from the weight of multiple medals won at swim meets over the past month.
Most recent of which are Alanna Bowles, Mikaela Bass, Crystal Thwaite and Karleigh Banks. The girls performed extremely well at the National Age Championships with all 4 posting ‘Person Bests’. Alanna came away with a massive haul of 5 gold medals for the 200m Butterfly, 200m IM, 400m IM, 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle. Coach Shane Kingston was very proud of the girl’s efforts and believes they have bright futures in the sport.
11 year old Height's College swim star Ty Hartwell is also carrying extra weight around his neck returning last month from the Queensland Primary School Championships where he placed in four of his events. Ty returned with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal from the seven events he competed in. He wasn’t only a medallist in four of his events, he was also the runner-up in his age division and coach Shane Kingston explained the young swimmer is sure to be one of Rockhampton's biggest success stories.
Josh McErlean has also been making waves collecting 6 medals from his visit to the Queensland Secondary School trials. He placed in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke, as well as the 200m IM and 200m Freestyle. Josh competed superbly swimming in the event for people with a disability.

http://www.kickstartcq.com.au/news/item/67
Australians, particularly young Australians, to be more active and play sport. The Australian Government, in partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) has initiated the Prime Minister’s Olympic Challenge and Prime Minister’s Paralympic Challenge.
These two individual sporting Challenges are aimed at encouraging primary school-aged children to participate in sport from 28 May 2012 until the conclusion of the Olympics and Paralympics respectively.
The Challenges will aim to encourage and inspire Australian primary school-aged children to get active, have fun and earn rewards. Schools, after-school care centres, sporting organisations and individual children will have the opportunity to participate in the Prime Minister’s Olympic or Paralympic Challenges.
The Prime Minister’s Olympic Challenge is a sporting challenge, based on accumulated time and the number of sports children undertake. The Paralympic Challenge will expand on the existing Paralympic Education Program and will encourage children to be active and inclusive of others. It will also teach them about some of the unique Paralympic sports and athletes.
All participating children will be able to earn a gold, silver, bronze or participation certificate. Plus, they may even get the chance to meet one of their sporting heroes or win prizes along their sporting journey.
The Challenges will also provide Olympic and Paralympic sports with the opportunity to profile themselves and their athletes while highlighting their place in the Olympic and Paralympic Games
